UP Warriorz edged out Royal Challengers Bengaluru in a dramatic Super Over finish in the Women’s Premier League at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium here on Monday.

With 18 runs needed in the final over of regulation play, UP Warriorz tailender Sophie Ecclestone hammered pacer Renuka Singh for two sixes and a four.

Ecclestone nearly pulled off the impossible all on her own, but settled for a single off the fifth ball.

Run out

Kranti Goud only needed to score one run off the final delivery, but a play and miss allowed RCB wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh to run up to the stumps and catch Ecclestone short of the crease.

In the Super Over, UP Warriorz managed eight runs. RCB batters Smriti Mandhana and Richa Ghosh dropped the ball, scoring just four runs.

After being put in to bat, RCB rode on a 56-ball 90 from Ellyse Perry to finish on 180 for six.

Perry on song

The Australian, who made 81 in the previous match, moved past Meg Lanning as the highest run-scorer in WPL history. Perry became the first player to breach the 800-run mark in the tournament.

Perry and Danni Wyatt-Hodge (57, 41b, 4×4, 3×6) put on a lively 94-run second-wicket stand — the backbone of the Royal Challengers essay.

The UP Warriorz chase got a flying start through the blazing blade of Kiran Navgire (24, 12b, 4×4, 1×6).

Royal Challengers called on the experienced Renuka, who castled Kiran with an inswinger. Renuka struck again in her next over, taking out Vrinda Dinesh. Captain Deepti (25, 13b, 4×4, 1×6) and Shweta (31, 25b, 4×4) kept UP Warriorz afloat.

The visitor relied on West Indian powerhouse Chinelle Henry to work her magic in the death overs, just as she did in the previous outing.

An inside edge onto the stumps, however, put RCB in the driver’s seat. That was until Ecclestone tore up the script.

The scores:

Royal Challengers 180/6 in 20 overs (Danni Wyatt-Hodge 57, Ellyse Perry 90 n.o.) tied with UP Warriorz 180 in 20 overs (Deepti Sharma 25, Shweta Sehrawat 31, Sophie Ecclestone 33, Renuka Singh 2/36, Kim Garth 2/40, Sneh Rana 3/27).

Super Over: Warriorz 8/1 bt RCB 4/0.

Toss: UP Warriorz.
