Sunrisers Hyderabad has appointed Varun Aaron as the new bowling coach for the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, the franchise announced on Monday. He will take over from former New Zealand left-arm quick James Franklin, who was with the team for the last two years.

The former India player retired from cricket earlier this year and has picked up commentary since. The 35-year-old played the IPL for nine seasons, claiming 44 wickets in 52 matches at an economy of 8.93 for five franchises — Gujarat Titans, Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals).

Aaron is also an IPL winner, having been a part of the Hardik Pandya-led GT side that won the title in its debut season in 2022. Overall, the Jharkhand native, who played nine Tests and as many ODIs for India between 2011 and 2015, played 95 T20s and picked 93 wickets.
