In a huge blow to the Punjab Kings’ bowling attack, Lockie Ferguson is highly unlikely to play for the rest of the IPL 2025.
Ferguson pulled up the side of his left leg while bowling during Punjab’s away game against Sunrisers Hyderabad and is indefinitely out, the team’s assistant coach James Hopes said here on Monday ahead of the match against Kolkata Knight Riders.
The Kiwi pacer took five wickets in three innings, maintaining an economy of 9.16 this season.
“Ferguson is out indefinitely, I think, and us getting him back by the end of the tournament is a very low percentage. I think he’s done a real decent injury to himself,” Hopes said.
Hopes acknowledged that Yuzvendra Chahal’s dismal returns in five games so far is a concern, saying that he needs to be brought more into the game than how he has been used.
“We need to bring Yuzi into the game more than we’re doing. He’s just struggling to get into the game at the moment. We are five games in, and for us to win the IPL, we’re going to need him. So, we have a month and a half now to try and get him into the tournament properly,” Hopes explained.
Chahal has picked two wickets so far and has conceded 11.13 runs an over. Hopes, though, quickly came to the leg-spinner’s defence, explaining that the pitches PBKS has played on so far have been high-scoring, where 200 has been a par score.
