Delhi Capitals confirmed on Friday that Mitchell Starc will play no further part in the 18th edition of the IPL. The Australian left-arm speedster returned home once the IPL was suspended on May 8. DC takes on Gujarat Titans at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday.
Starc will now begin preparations for the World Test Championship final against South Africa at Lord’s from June 11. While Tristan Stubbs joined DC for its training session on Friday, Faf du Plessis’ participation remains doubtful.
In Starc’s absence, DC will hope that Bangladesh left-armer Mustafizur Rahman fills the void in the remaining three league games as it bids to enter the playoffs.
Mustafizur, who has replaced Jake Fraser-McGurk in the DC squad, has got clearance from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to take part in the IPL from May 18 to May 24.
If Capitals qualify for the playoffs, however, they will have to make do without Mustafizur, who has to join the Bangladesh team for a T20I series against Pakistan starting on May 25.
