Chennai Super Kings has had an eminently forgettable time, logging just two victories thus far in IPL 2025 but its batting coach Mike Hussey asserted the main focus is to win the remaining matches.
Hussey said that this season was different in that the team had seen lots of players get opportunities as things hadn’t gone as per plan.
He praised the attitude of players like Rachin Ravindra and Deepak Hooda, who despite being left out of the playing XI chose to keep training hard with an eye on improvement.
“Impressed with his (Hooda’s) attitude, in particular. He was genuinely happy when youngsters got chances. Hooda did a decent job in the last match, that wasn’t an easy situation to play in. I was really happy for him,” Hussey said on the eve of the match against Punjab Kings at the MAC Stadium here on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Punjab Kings fast bowling coach James Hopes spoke about the team’s middle-order not faring well. “It can get quite tough when the top-order is doing well and the chances are limited. Our middle-order has not faced many balls in the last couple of weeks. They are training well. They will come good and have their moments when required.”
Asked about teen prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s sensational knock against Gujarat Titans, he said, “It was hard to take my eyes off last night. These kids in general play a different game. They come up against the Kohlis and Dhonis of the world, but do not have any fear. Indian cricket is well placed, especially in the white-ball formats.”
