Asian championship – The Hindu

India will host the 11th Asian swimming championship in Ahmedabad from October 1 to 15.

“We have got the in-principle approval for the event from the Gujarat Government and the Asian federation (Asia Aquatics). We will be signing the MoU with them within the next 30 to 40 days,” Monal Chokshi, general secretary, Swimming Federation of India, told The Hindu from Ahmedabad on Wednesday.

“Though it is officially called the Asian swimming championship, it will have swimming, diving, water polo and artistic swimming. This is the first time India will be hosting the Asian championship though we have hosted the Asian age-group championships before.”

The Asian championship will be held at the Naranpura Sports Complex and the work there is likely to be completed in April.

“Before that, we will have the National junior championship at the new pool as a test event for the Asian championship,” said Chokshi.

The Asian championships will have some of the world’s best swimmers from countries like China, Japan and South Korea.
