Harmanpreet Kaur sees the three-match ODI series against Australia, starting here on Sunday, as an excellent opportunity ahead of the biggest event in women’s cricket, the World Cup.

“We are happy that we are playing against one of the best teams, and these matches are very important,” the India captain said on Saturday. “At the same time, we are thinking of giving opportunities to everyone so that all of us are fresh for the World Cup.”

The game is special for Harmanpreet on a personal note, too. It is her 150th ODI, and only two Indian women have reached that milestone before her – Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami. She is glad to be doing that in her home State of Punjab.

And she is really happy that the youngsters, like Kranti Goud and Pratika Rawal, are delivering for India. “Till about four or five years ago, we were talking about the difference between domestic and international cricket, but these girls are ready for that,” she said.

Australia captain Alyssa Healy said she was looking forward to the series against ‘the sleeping giant.’ “This is the most stable Indian side I have seen. And India is a great place to come and play as a cricketer,” she said.
