Asia Cup 2025: India announces squad, Shubman Gill named vice-captain

Indian selectors led by Ajit Agarkar announced the squad for the forthcoming Asia Cup T20 championship in September.

Test captain Shubman Gill has been included in the squad and in fact was named as the vice-captain.

The team led by Suryakumar Yadav will also have big-hitter Rinku Singh, fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah and spinner Kuldeep Yadav.

The chief selector Ajit Agarkar said that Yashasvi Jaiswal was not picked for Asia Cup.

Ajit Agarkar said “We have some serious options in T20 squad… sometimes not the easiest squad to pick but good headache to have.”

The chief selector added “Washington Sundar, Prasidh Krishna, Dhruv Jurel, Riyan Parag and Yashasvi Jaiswal on standby.”

On the selection of the Indian squad for the Asia Cup, captain Suryakumar Yadav said “We have lovely players around with amazing skills which makes my job easier.”
