CRICKET | TNCA sacks selector Santosh Kumar for unbecoming conduct

M. Santosh Kumar, the recently appointed selector for the Tamil Nadu senior men’s team, has been sacked by the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association after complaints were received about his conduct.

The decision was taken in the Apex Council meeting held on Thursday.

In May, Santosh was one of the three new selectors appointed for the senior squad.

Complaints

The decision to sack Santosh was taken after four selectors, who are part of the senior and junior committees, complained that he had allegedly intimidated and threatened them through electronic communication channels (text messages and voice calls).

In the termination notice, a copy of which The Hindu has seen, the TNCA stated, “These allegations, upon preliminary review by the Apex Council, have been considered sufficiently serious and indicative of conduct unbecoming of your position.

“Such conduct is viewed as a material breach of the standards of professional ethics and decorum expected from a person in your capacity, and is considered to have adversely affected the collaborative functioning and trust essential to the Selection Committees.”

Showcause notice

Santosh has played 12 First Class matches for Tamil Nadu and Railways.

The association has also issued a show-cause notice to Santosh, who is also a former member-club secretary.

The notice seeks a reply within the next seven days, with the option to refer the matter to the TNCA Ombudsman, headed by a retired High Court judge, for adjudication.

If proven guilty, the former player could be banned from being associated with the TNCA in any capacity in the future.
