Chennai Super Kings batting coach Mike Hussey pointed out that Dewald Brevis’ onslaught against Kolkata Knight Riders pacer Vaibhav Arora swung Wednesday’s IPL match in favour of the visiting side.

The Australian also praised home captain Ajinkya Rahane for using his bowling resources well.

“Rahane’s captaincy was first class. He pulled all the right cards at the right time. He had to attack with his gun spinners at that time. If they hadn’t, Brevis and (Shivam) Dube going the way they were going, the match would have finished maybe three overs earlier. Tactically he (Rahane) was brilliant, but unfortunately it didn’t go their way,” Hussey said after CSK’s two-wicket win.

Brevis plundered 30 runs off Vaibhav in the 11th over of the 180-run chase.

“That was a really important over for us to bring the runs required and the balls left a lot closer. We knew that the keys were going to be (Sunil) Narine and (Varun) Chakaravarthy, particularly on this pitch, which looked very dry. The batters knew they had to target the faster bowlers. To Brevis and Dube’s credit, they played the spinners nicely.”

On KKR letting CSK off the hooks after reducing it to 60 for five, Rahane praised Brevis and Dube for their brave batting and admitted that his team scored 15 runs less due to CSK bowlers’ good performance.

Rahane, however, was hopeful that KKR would be able to qualify for the playoffs by winning its remaining two away matches and garnering 15 points.
