The Kapil Dev – Grant Thornton Invitational golf tournament will stage its third edition at Prestige Golfshire in Bengaluru from April 23 to 26. The tournament, which will be held in a mixed format for the first time, has been co-sanctioned by the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) and the Women’s Golf Association of India (WGAI). The combined prize purse for the event is ₹2 crore.
After a practice round on April 23, a three-day competition will be played over 54 holes. It will feature 60 male and 12 female professionals. The event will also have three Pro-Am rounds in a rotational format.
“Through this tournament, we aim to inspire a broader audience, create a larger community of enthusiasts, and most importantly, nurture the next generation of golfers, making the sport more accessible and inclusive for all,” PGTI president Kapil Dev, who took a liking to golf after his illustrious cricketing career, said at a press meet on Tuesday.
Amandeep Johl, CEO of PGTI, said that the course will be set up in such a way that a fair contest takes place among men and women. “We wanted to do something different. I am happy that we are having a new format. The girls will play about 6000-6200 yards. The men will play over 7000 yards. That’s how we are going to ensure equality,” Johl informed.
