N. Thangaraja of Sri Lanka took the opening day’s honours with a seven-under 65 in the Rs. 1 crore Ahmedabad Open golf championship at the Kensville Golf and Country Club in Ahmedabad on Tuesday.
Michele Ortolani of Italy, fresh from being runner-up on the Asian Development Tour, was second with a four-under 68.
The 43-year-old Thangaraja, third last week in Raipur, said that he was carrying on with the confidence of the good performance in the Chhattisgarh Open.
“It was a very windy day, but I handled it well. I hit 13 greens in regulation and my putting was excellent. Scoring 65 in such tough conditions adds to my self-belief going forward in the tournament,” said Thangaraja.
